The Provincial Young Workers Committee stands in full solidarity with the 10,000 full time college support staff who are on strike across Ontario. These workers are fighting to protect quality public education and ensure our colleges remain places where students can learn, grow, and thrive.
College support staff are essential to student success. They provide IT services, academic advising, accessibility services, mental health support, financial aid guidance, and much more. When these jobs are cut or contracted out, it is students who suffer most.
The Ford government and college administrators are making decisions that threaten to gut student supports and privatize public education. Program cuts, outsourcing, and layoffs hurt workers, students, and our communities. Colleges are pillars of opportunity, and we cannot allow them to be dismantled.
Good jobs are key to strong communities. College support staff deserve fair wages, job security, and respect. By standing up for their rights, they are also defending the future of public education in Ontario.
We call on all OPSEU/SEFPO members, students, and allies to support these workers. Visit a picket line, contact your MPP, and share messages of solidarity. Together, we can protect good jobs, defend student services, and save our colleges.
The Provincial Young Workers Committee is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with college support staff. When we fight together, we win together.
In solidarity,
OPSEU/SEFPO’s Provincial Young Workers Committee
