OPSEU will be holding two Orientations for Local Presidents in November 2015.
This two-day workshop provides an orientation for OPSEU local presidents to their leadership roles within the union.
Day one helps local presidents navigate OPSEU's organizational structure, systems and resources. Local presidents will also strategize on building an involved membership through steward development and contract enforcement with a focus on health and safety and equity as everyday local issues.
Day two focuses on mobilizing the local through effective communication, inclusive leadership and developing a strategic approach to employer tactics. We explore practical leadership responses to everyday situations through group work and interaction with other local presidents.
First Orientation session:
Thursday, November 19, 2015, 8:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Friday, November 20, 2015, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Second Orientation session:
Monday, November 23, 2015, 8:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, November 24, 2015, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Who can take the course?
All local presidents who have not taken the two-day Orientation for Local Presidents are eligible to participate. The workshop, with limited numbers, will ensure equitable participation from each region.

Complete the application form below and submit by Friday, September 25, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Any applications received after this time will not be considered for the November 2015 orientations. If you applied for a previous Orientation for Local Presidents but did not attend, and you wish to attend one of these sessions, you must submit a new application form.

Selection Process
Selection will ensure equitable representation by regions. If there are more applications than available spaces, selection will be based on the order of date of election as president.

If the dates listed are not convenient for you, there will be other Orientations for Local Presidents held next year. Application information will be made available at that time.
