OPSEU/SEFPO Statement of Solidarity for those affected by Cyclone Ditwah

It is with sadness that once again that OPSEU/SEFPO recognizes the tragedy of yet another devastating climate emergency, this time in South and Southeast Asia.

Cyclone Ditwah – cyclone is the term used for hurricane-force storms in the Indian Ocean – has impacted countries from Indonesia to Sri Lanka to Thailand with hundreds of people reported killed and many more still missing. Communities across these nations and in neighbouring nations are dealing with flash floods, the collapse of infrastructure and the displacement of people. As always, those who are already precarious, including many workers, are also struggling because many have lost their employment due to the vast areas affected by this cyclone.

OPSEU/SEFPO stands in solidarity with the people affected; we also send our support and sympathy to the many OPSEU/SEFPO staff and members who have family and friends in the area. OSPEU/SEFPO will be making a donation to the World Health Organization to provide emergency and medical assistance to those who need it the most and encourage those who can, to consider doing the same.
