Dear All members,
The OPSEU SEFPO Jewish Caucus shares a message of light, resilience, and renewal in celebration of Hanukkah 5786.
In the second century BCE, the Maccabees reclaimed and rededicated the ancient Temple in Jerusalem after resisting the Seleucid rulers who sought to silence Jewish life. Tradition tells that a small jar of consecrated oil was found, enough for one night, yet its light endured for eight.
Each year we kindle the menorah and add light upon light, remembering that hope can begin as a small flame and still transform the darkness around it.
Hanukkah is a story of courage and renewal, a reminder that identity and dignity endure even when challenged. Its message continues to echo across generations, especially for communities striving to bring light into difficult spaces.
May the lights of Hanukkah strengthen our resolve, brighten our paths, and remind us that light grows when shared.
Happy Hanukkah / Joyeuse Hanoucca / חג חנוכה שמח
In solidarity
