Members of OPSEU Local 357 at Community Living Huronia have filed a No Board report with the Ontario Labour Relations Board and will be in a legal strike position at 12:01 am, Aug. 10. The local represents about 220 members who work in 26 locations including 21 group homes.
Members gave their bargaining team a 98 per cent strike mandate last year, if a new contract can’t be reached before the deadline. Bargaining didn’t get underway until May 2015. Key demands include one additional float day and improvements to dental benefits, sick leave and part-time vacation provisions. Local president Vicky McGuire said five days of negotiations and one 14-hour day with a conciliator achieved nothing and that the employer refused all demands put forward by the bargaining team.
