Region 7 OPSEU members engage in active co-facilitation training
On October 1st to the 4th, fifteen members from Region 7 participated in the OPSEU “Train the Trainer” program. Assembling from different areas of Region 7 and sharing their wealth of experience, these members gained confidence in public speaking, shared active co-facilitation and found their comfort zones in a classroom setting.
The goals they identified for themselves were varied but by the end of the session participants felt they had accomplished what they set out to achieve. From feeling at ease in the classroom, to sharing the theory and practice of activist education used at OPSEU, the 15 members came away with a series of skillsets to enhance their active co-facilitation.
Participants expanded their skills to introduce a variety of activities to a larger group, build community and equity among participants, take up small group work, lead large group discussions and address unexpected conflicts and tensions.
These Train the Trainer participants will have an opportunity to further enhance and practice their skills by being on the Region 7 roster of Educational co-facilitators and can be called to facilitate at OPSEU events.
