We’re excited to share a brief but important update on the ongoing Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act (PSLRTA) process at Ontario Health atHome.
Last Friday, July 25, Ontario Health atHome and all unions representing staff appeared before the Ontario Labour Relations Board for a hearing to determine the number of bargaining units that will represent employees after the PSLRTA vote. After extensive discussions between the Unions, the Employer, and the Board, it was agreed that a formal hearing would not be necessary.
All parties have come to a consensus: there will be two bargaining units.
- One for Professional Staff, including Care Coordinators, Therapists, and Nurses.
- One for Administrative, Clerical, and Technical Staff.
The Board is expected to issue a formal order confirming this structure in the coming days.
The next step in this historic process will take place on October 8, 2025, when the parties will reconvene at the Board to discuss union access and a potential vote date. Should those matters not be finalized at that time, a virtual follow-up date is scheduled for November.
CUPE Ontario is pushing for a swift vote. However, OPSEU/SEFPO strongly believes that all unions must be granted fair and adequate time—across multiple days and locations—to meet with members in person, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to make an informed and thoughtful decision.
This vote represents the largest geographic restructuring in Ontario labour history, affecting thousands of professional and clerical staff across all Ontario Health atHome branches. With 14 regions stretching from Thunder Bay to Windsor to Ottawa and Niagara, equitable and in-person union access is not only important — it’s essential.
We’ll continue to keep you informed every step of the way.
