College Support Full-time bargaining update #10: Vote YES August 13-15

Vote YES August 13-15 – for an agenda that makes our futures a priority, not a casualty.

In just under two weeks, we reach a turning point. You will have an essential decision before you: are you ready to take a stand and take back our power?

From August 13th at 12 p.m. through August 15th at 3 p.m., vote YES to deliver a powerful strike vote mandate for College Support Full-Time members across the province. A YES vote is also a vote for:

✔ Improving job security, including more bumping rights and longer recall rights

✔ Our work staying our work – not done by management;

✔ Protecting vacation accrual and personal time, especially at a time where layoffs and vacancies can increase workplace pressures;

✔ Respect for the value of our work, and the years (if not decades) we’ve put in on campuses.

Why vote YES?

We are the only ones that can chart a path forward that protects good, union jobs and working conditions we have fought to establish over 57 years of bargaining.

“Negotiations” which pressure us to remove proposals related to job security and stemming the workforce bleed are a non-starter.

Our employer is more than ready to compromise our futures – the same employer that has laid off 1/6th of our work force, and has overseen one of the largest layoffs in recent national history, 10,000 college workers, and didn’t plan to come clean about it.

You can expect to hear that our proposals are “too expensive” as they attach outrageously inflated costing – a beloved tactic of employers.

We know this, because it’s the same tactic used against us in previous rounds, and the same tactic used to discredit our faculty colleagues’ “$1 billion proposals.”

At this critical juncture, where the decisions you and your coworkers make can have generational consequences, we only have one choice: to see through the employer’s strategies, and set the agenda.

That’s why, from August 13-15, we need everyone to vote YES for a strong strike mandate. A high-participation, strong YES vote will support the bargaining team at the table with the full strength of the membership behind them.

We win when the employer looks over your bargaining team’s shoulder and sees thousands of us across the province standing shoulder to shoulder, ready to take it over the finish line.

We’re demanding what we deserve because we’re fighting for a shared, dignified future. If we want our colleagues, and the public, to follow us into that future, we need to be ready to lead.

How can I vote?

All voting will be by secret ballot and take place online or by phone. The Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) will send your unique voter information to your college email address. Check your spam folder if you don’t see it, and contact the OLRB Help Desk number if you do not receive your voting credentials.
