On Friday, September 26th, striking full-time College support workers at Georgian College united in Barrie, upon hearing of the surprise announcement of the closure of Georgian’s Orillia and Muskoka campuses, as of Fall 2026.
These closures will have devastating effects in Bracebridge and Orillia, shuttering opportunities in local communities, and forcing relocation to Georgian’s main Barrie campus.
This decision brings the total campus closure announcements at Georgian College in this year alone to three, following an announcement in May 2025 of the suspension of programs at the Collingwood campus.
Today, community members rallied in reaction to this devastating and surprise announcement to highlight the devastating effects on students, staff and local economies should this decision stand.
